Long Lost Blogger

Hi chickas! Sorry I haven't posted for a while. We've been trying to get ready for Black Friday at work so I've been coming home and collapsing. I wanted to do a Thanksgiving themed nail art for you, but after several failed attempts, I've decided to forgo that in favor of my latest haul and a mani I submitted to Planet Beauty for a Mani Monday contest. Oh and by the way . . . I WON! Woohooo!!! Just got my prize in the mail, so I'll include pics of that as well. Hope to have it all up this evening.

Peace to you all!
Lisa

Special Thank You

Today, 11-11-11, we celebrate Veteran's Day, or Armistices Day as it was previously known . I want to say a special thank you to all the veterans, past, present and future. My father was a career Navy man, so I grew up among heroes. Thank you for your service and sacrifice, and for all your families sacrifices as well.

Again I apologize for the blurred pictures. If you have any comments or constructive criticism, I would love to hear from you. Of if you have a blog, please leave me the URL I would love to see your work.

Peace,
Lisa

Moustache Mani Monday!

In support of men's prostate health during the month of November, and inspired by the below video created by CutePolish, I give you my take on the moustache mani!

It took several attempts to find a base color I was happy with. I first tried L'Oreal's Innocence, but no matter what I did, it came out streaked, even after 4 coats. So then I thought about what we tell people that come into the paint department at work about primers. I took off the Innocence and reapplied my base coat and then went to China Glaze Pelican Gray. After 2 coats I then applied 2 coats of WnW Megalast that I'd picked up at Big Lots in a 2 bottle package. There's no color name on the bottle, or color number, but it's a sort of medium flesh color with little bit of a pearl finish. Finally! It's the color I was after!!! Then on to the star of the show, the facial hair!

You'll notice I didn't stick with one type of moustache, that's because there are just so many great options out there if you're a guy and want to 'stache it up.

The thumb makes me think of the dastardly villain in the old silent movies, the index finger is of course the full beard and moustache, middle finger I went with a "Charlie Chan" style, the ring finger is a Fu Manchu style, then for the pinkie I went with a soul patch.

Go over to The TraceFace Philes and take a look at her Moustache Mani Monday entry. This has been so much fun, and it's already give me ideas for another mani. Hope you all enjoyed this as much as I have. Please let me know what you think. Constructive criticism is always welcome!

There's another reason I loved doing this mani. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and this year my girlfriends and I were able to spend it together. This was awesome since two of the girls live out-of-state and we don't get to see one another very often. For me Halloween is a reason to dress-up and become someone or something else. I love it! Not everyone gets into it at the same level I do. lol So they came up with their own alter ego's if you will. I give you "The Girls Who Dare to Wear facial Hair"!

And We're Off!

Ok so I've been wanting to do this for a while now, and I've decided to bite the bullet and go for it! I'd like to first thank you for reading what is sure to be some whacky posts about my obsession for nail art and all things shiny. I hope to share my experiences with different polishes and nail supplies and how I go about creating the fun art I get to wear on my nails.

I'd like to thank the many nail bloggers out there that have taken this to a whole new level. You've inspired and awed me with your creativity and desire to share the wealth with the rest of us. So without further ado, I give you my first of hopefully many blog posts, and my current mani.

I apologize for the blurry pictures, I'm using my camera phone and it doesn't take the best shots. Hopefully Santa will bring me something to do a better job. ;)

I first applied my base coat. I'm currently using different base and top coats, just experimenting to see what I like the best. For this application I used Maybelline Salon Expert Base and Top Coat. I don't care for this as a top coat because it seems to smear the design regardless of how long I let it dry.

I then applied Wet n Wild Wild Shine French White as my base color. Even though I usually love Wet n Wild, it seems Whites just don't like me. I tried doing several thin coats, they wouldn't stop streaking, so I went to a thicker coat with much longer dry time, and still had streaking. Finally after 3 coats it was even enough for this particular nail art since it's spotted.

Next I applied the different color spots, doing one color at a time on all the nails, but not waiting for them to dry since they weren't touching. For the spots I used my Sinful Colors Nail Art liners, colors A Slice To Go (hot pink), Orange Heart (orange), Anxious Azure (turquoise), and Worn Before (green).

After letting everything dry, I put a couple dabs of Wet n Wild Wild Shine Black Creme onto a paper plate and using a small paint brush, applied the dots and "C"s on and around the colored spots.

As a top coat I wanted to add a little sparkle, which unfortunately doesn't show up in the pics regardless of the lighting I used. My top coat was Wet n Wild Hallucinate, and the micro sparkles add just the right amount of bling for this busy design. Hope you enjoy!

I know this art has been done before, by people much more accomplished than myself, but I absolutely LOVE how it turned out and am proud to show this on my first blog post.
